Kadıköy Belediyesi

`

We increasingly feel that symbolic buildings which once helped us navigate the city—especially on the Anatolian side—are rapidly disappearing. Meeting points and landmarks we used to give directions, like the McDonald’s on Bağdat Street, the Çarşı, or Rexx Cinema, are vanishing one by one. We aimed to preserve the iconic value of the existing building—without repeating the mistakes made in the reconstruction of the AKM, where the memory was flattened into a nostalgic replica rather than reinterpreted through contemporary architectural thought.`

Fenerbahce 100th Year Logo

Being strong Galatasaray supporters, both myself and Mehmet Tolgay, we worked for the 100th year celebrations logo for Fenerbahce in 2005 November. The logo was designed to be used on the Fenerbahce products of the 2006-2007 season. We have not won anything in the competition, yet it was a fun process for us. Our collaboration was called to+bu, standing for tolgay + burak.

Ida Farmhouse

For the past three months, we have been busy designing with the best clients we have ever had a house with a beautiful Ida Mountains view on the north of the Aegean Sea. The Farmhouse became a milestone project for Building Office. Looking forward to the future of this concept design and similar clients with great vision for modern architecture.

Bursa Ataturk Spor Salonu

Building Office / Aras Burak’s latest competition entry for Bursa Ataturk Sports Center is a transformable building that is able to convert from sports center into a concert/event hall. Another disappointing competition effort done in Turkey with no recognition in terms of awards. Special thanks to Aris Kozmidis of ARUP and Gözde Kızılkan, Architect for collaboration. ITU Competiton Entry

Project is a design proposal for one of the most historical education institutions in Turkey, Istanbul Technical University, Isletme Fakultesi, Business School building. The existing 1960’s designed building is a series of masses that are spread on-site, connected with walkway masses — the program provided in brief for the new building almost required to fill the whole site. There was also a height restriction to match the height of the neighboring historical Macka campus. Between this historical Macka campus building and the new building, there is also a formerly Ottoman police station nowadays used by ITU. We wanted to avoid having a huge mass begging for attention from the main street at the same time we wanted the new campus to be iconic and exciting for its students, academics. After analyzing the given brief, we decided to split all admin into one single building, orient it to the site edge, which also coincides with a great view of Bosphorus. The rest of the program was catered for the students, where we thought the stacked mass of amphitheaters could efficiently work within the massing of a cylinder. The connection between the buildings is thought to be within the podium level, where the ceiling of this podium meets the topographical edges of the site; therefore the podium seems buried underground.
